Ten connected stages.
Care at every step.

Explore the ten stages below, from growing the cactus to packing the finished bottle.

The beginning

Before the bottle, the mountainside.

A living cactus. Carefully harvested pads. The part of the plant we choose to use.

01

Our Mexico-grown Nopal

It begins with a living cactus

On our mountain farms in Central Mexico, Opuntia streptacantha grows at about 8,200 feet above sea level in rich volcanic soil. We stay involved from growing through harvest and preparation.

02

From the field to collection

Harvested and selected with care

The green pads are selected and gathered from the field, then taken for cleaning and preparation.

03

The green pad takes center stage

Preparing the pads with care

The pads are cleaned, their spines removed, and the material cut into suitable pieces. Our capsules use the green pad rather than the prickly pear fruit. Clean equipment and careful handling matter before the pieces reach the dryer.(2)

to dried powder.

Why we choose freeze-drying

The harvest is precious.
How we prepare it matters.

Freeze-drying removes moisture while limiting prolonged exposure to high temperatures.(1)

04

Arrange and freeze

Freeze the prepared pieces

The pieces are arranged on trays and frozen. Their size and spacing help them dry consistently.(1)

05

The freeze-drying stage

Dry under vacuum

Inside the closed freeze dryer, vacuum and controlled heat allow ice to pass directly into water vapor. Primary drying removes the ice; secondary drying reduces remaining moisture.(1)

06

Milling the dried pads

From dried pad to powder

The dried pad pieces are milled into powder, then protected from moisture before capsule filling.

The finished form

Filling, checking,
and bottling.

07

Prepare and fill

The powder becomes a capsule

Capsule-filling equipment measures the powder into vegetable capsule bodies and closes them with the matching halves. Our label states 500 mg of freeze-dried Nopal cactus per capsule and 1,000 mg per two-capsule serving.(3)

08

Identity, cleanliness and checks

Quality belongs with the material

Good Manufacturing Practices address material identity, specifications, cleanliness, equipment, records and production controls.(2) A laboratory report should identify the sample, test method and results. You can read our Nopal product label or contact our team about applicable quality information.

Bottling and labeling

The finished bottle

120 capsules per bottle

Capsules are counted into bottles, which are then capped. Each contains 120 vegetable capsules, or 60 two-capsule servings.(3)

A label you can read

The label lists the botanical name, amount, other ingredients, directions and storage information.(2)
