Mangosteen Juice Processing And Additives - The Real Truth Exposed

Pasteurization and the Finished Juice

Many bottled juices are pasteurized using batch or flash methods. This treatment reduces harmful microbes and helps the unopened juice keep longer.(1), (2) The time and temperature used can affect the juice’s flavor, color, and nutrients.(3), (4) Once opened, the juice can still spoil and should be stored according to the label’s directions.

Read the Sugar Information

Bottled mangosteen drinks can contain sugars from juice as well as added sugars. Our capsules contain no added sugar. People managing diabetes should check the total carbohydrate and total sugars per serving and account for the serving size.(5)

Know What Is in the Blend

A finished mangosteen juice drink may combine mangosteen with other juices and water. A premium price does not tell you how much mangosteen the bottle contains. Read the percentage-juice declaration and ingredients rather than judging the blend by its name alone.(7)

What Additives Do

The taste of a bottled mangosteen juice drink may come partly from other fruit juices and added flavorings. Citric acid can add tartness and help control acidity. Sodium benzoate is a preservative, not a flavoring. In some beverages containing both benzoate and vitamin C, very small amounts of benzene can form, particularly with exposure to heat or light. Benzene is a carcinogen.(6)
